Why do dancers love the Fourth of July?

We love the Fourth of July because it signifies the beginning of summer!  Everyone gets this holiday off to play in the sun and celebrate Independence day the American way; with barbecues, beach days, fireworks, and a whole lot of red, white and blue! Check out these 5 reasons why we are all about this patriotic summer holiday:

We get to wear our stars and stripes! 

As dancers, we love dress up days and the Fourth of July is no exception! Pair a blue sundress with white sneakers and a red lip, or a red and white striped shirt with high-waisted denim, or rock your stars and stripes swimsuit with heart-shaped sunnies!  These are only a few of the possible combinations when it comes to dressing up for your 4th of July!

We get to eat delicious food! 

Classic Fourth of July meals usually include some sort of barbecue, appetizers like deviled eggs and potato salad, and lots of chips n dips!  Consider googling healthier versions of these classic treats so you can eat freely and feel good about it.  For example, fresh guacamole is typically better for you than french onion dip, you can make a veggie tray instead of a cheese platter, and you can choose to grill salmon or skinless chicken instead of hamburgers or hotdogs. 

We get to perform for our community in local parades or shows!

Some of our studios/companies get to march and dance in local parades and shows, and this of course, is what we love to do!  It’s exhilarating to dance in a place that is not your studio or local theatre, and for people who may not always come to our shows/competitions.  It’s probably going to be hot out, so make sure to drink plenty of water.

We get to watch fireworks! 

Ah…The beauty of those beautiful sparkling bundles of fire and light!  How cool is it that we get to see fireworks every fourth of July?!  They move us emotionally and leave us in awe as they light up the warm summer sky.  Not to mention how they’re usually choreographed to some of the best classic American tunes. 

We get to celebrate our freedom!

While every country has something beautifully unique to offer to the world, we like to celebrate our ability to speak, think and dance freely in the US.  Every day we get to choose how we live our lives, and that is the best freedom we can ask for!
